Award Winners Recognized
In recognition of the role of volunteers in the Downtown Denver business community, the Partnership selected the following individuals:
Gary Desmond, AR7 HooverDesmond Architects
Since joining the Downtown Denver Partnership in 1999, Gary Desmond has found numerous ways to share his many talents and passion for Downtown Denver. Desmond is a Denver Civic Ventures Board member, co-chair of the Downtown Development & Transportation Council, member of the Denver Union Station Advisory Council and Task Force, 2007 Downtown Area Plan Steering Committee member and former co-chair of the Central Platte Valley Development council. He continually goes beyond the call of duty, volunteering to help with member forums to educate Partnership members and infuse them with a similar enthusiasm for urban planning and architecture.
Steve Katich, Rainbow Rewards
As a member of the Downtown Denver Inc. Board since 2000, the Partnership’s Management Group Board since 2004, and the Partnership’s Ballot Review Task Force, Steve Katich has illustrated strong leadership on issues relating to Downtown. In addition, he recognizes the need to cultivate future leaders within our community, and has worked diligently as trustee chair to the Downtown Denver Leadership Program to ensure that our community fosters civic-minded individuals.
Karen Mulville, Denver Pavilions
As a downtown resident and the General Manager of one of Downtown Denver’s largest retail, restaurant and entertainment destinations, Karen Mulville knows intimately well the challenges and rewards within our center city. Mulville holds seats on the Business Improvement District Board and the Denver Civic Ventures Board, and is a member of the Downtown Safety Committee, Economic Development Task Force and the Downtown Area Plan Steering Committee. Karen also serves on the Downtown Denver Leadership Program Nominating Committee.

The Denver Commission to End Homelessness
The Denver Commission to End Homelessness was the winner of the President’s Award for 2006. With nearly 10,000 homeless people in the metro area, and roughly $70 million spent annually on shelter, health care and other services not conducive to long-term solutions, there is seemingly a long road ahead. The tireless efforts of the Denver Commission to End Homelessness resulted in a strategy that is currently providing a coordinated, efficient and long-term response that is fiscally responsible and will save taxpayers money, while helping our community’s most vulnerable citizens.

Molly Broeren, Molly’s of Denver
Since 1983, Molly Broeren has served on countless Partnership boards, committees and task forces. In addition to serving on the Denver Civic Ventures Board from 1990 to 2004, Molly’s involvement over the years is nothing short of impressive: Membership Committee member and Co-Chair, Marketing Committee, the Retail Task Force, Referenda C&D Task Force, Downtown Denver Awards Jury membeR AND Awards Dinner Chair since 1992. Molly was a Downtown Denver Partnership Volunteer of the Year in 1991.
Patty Fontneau was introduced as the 2006-2007 Chairman of the Downtown Denver Partnership. Fontneau Partnership committees and councils including safety council, the C&D Task Force, Ballot Issue Review Task Force, Transportation Council and the 16th Street Extension Task Force. Fontneau is the Chief Administrative Officer for The IMA Financial Group. Inc, and is responsible for the company's operations and infrastructure.IMAprovides clients with innovative solutions for their risk management needs. IMA identifies, analyzes, and solves the most challenging risk management problems.The IMA Financial Group has grown and prospered over the years to include 400 associates with offices in Dallas, TX, Denver, CO, Kansas City, KS, Topeka, KS, Wichita, KS, Boston, MA and Los Angeles, CA. .
