Greener Business

Through a partnership with the City of Denver’s Department of Environmental Health, Certifiably Green Denver allows office and retail businesses to showcase their environmentally sustainable practices, while encouraging others to do the same.  The program is aligned with the Greener Downtown goals listed in the Downtown Denver Area Plan, which was adopted by Denver City Council in 2007.

The certification program distinguishes five categories of efficiency: Business Management, Energy, Water Conservation, Resource Management, and Transportation.  Certifiably Green Denver identifies core and elective criteria designed to achieve efficiency benchmarks within each category. This program structure allows businesses to become certified in a way that best suits their organization, their operations, their employees and the environment.  Denver’s Department of Environmental Health offers a similar certification program for Denver restaurants and auto repair shops

The Partnership’s goal for Certifiably Green Denver is to position Downtown Denver as a national leader in sustainable business practices.  The free program will serve businesses that are sustainability novices or experts and will provide the necessary assistance required to achieve the certification.  No knowledge of sustainable practices is required to participate.  The Downtown Denver Partnership and the City of Denver’s Department of Environmental Health will provide technical support and training to help the business community attain the certification.  Additionally, the partners will direct participants to financial incentives and rebates available through other local, state and national programs.

Certifiably Green Denver offers businesses a competitive advantage, enhances their reputation and image, attracts new customers, boosts employee morale and reduces operational costs.  The DDP green business certification is a great incentive for office and retail businesses to not only go green, but SAVE green (money, that is…)

The first 25 businesses to receive certification will be Founding Members of the Certifiably Green Denver.  For more information on the program or to get started on your certification, contact Sharon Alton at sharon@thegaiagroup.net.
