Green Programs

The Downtown Denver Partnership and Business Improvement District actively support the following Green programs:

Denver B-Cycle

The Downtown Denver Partnership is a proud Denver B-Cycle Pro-Bono Partner. Denver B-cycle is a new way to get around downtown Denver! Denver B-cycle members can pick up a bike at any B-station and return it to that same station or any other B-station when they’re done. Using their B-cards, members can unlock a bike in seconds. Returning a bike is even easier. Just roll it into a dock and walk away. The onboard B-cycle trip computer allows members to track all the miles they ride, the calories they burn, and the carbon emissions they avoid. Visit the Denver B-Cycle webpage for program details and Bike Denver for general cycling information.

Car Share

CarSharing services provide you access to a car without the commitment of owning one! CarSharing services are incredibly convenient, providing short-term car rental without the hassle of paperwork and filling up the gas tank. Denver’s car sharing services are affordable, convenient, reliable - and eco-friendly – by reducing congestion and emission. CarSharing businesses serving Downtown Denver include: eGo CarShare, OccasionalCar, and Hertz on Demand. For additional information, check out "Carsharing Options in Downtown Denver" and “I *heart* my eGo” (written by DDP’s Urban Planning and Sustainability Manager, Cassie Milestone)

Additional Bike Lanes

In the past 18 months, significant improvements have been made to the Downtown Denver bicycle network with additional large-scale improvements on tap for the next 6-12 months. In addition to the miles of bike lanes and sharrows that make Downtown Denver a safer and more pleasant place to ride, there are approximately 600 inverted “U” racks that dot the sidewalks throughout the entire downtown area where you can park your bike. For additional information on bicycling in Downtown Denver, check out "Bicycling in Downtown Denver" and “A Bicycle Friendlier Downtown Denver” (written by DDP’s Transportation and Research Manager, Aylene McCallum).

16th Street Implementation

RTD, the Downtown Denver Partnership (DDP) and the Downtown Denver Business Improvement District (BID) began construction this Fall on a test program to evaluate and rehabilitate the existing granite pavers on one Block of the 16th Street Mall.  Rehabilitation of existing material as an alternative to demolition and reconstruction demonstrate an environmentally responsible solution to remedy the failing 30-year old paving system.  Not only does the project reduce the amount of landfill waste created, it also retains the embodied energy already in place from the Mall’s original construction. For additional information and updates, check out "Exciting Development on the 16th Street Mall"

Green Business Certification

The Downtown Denver Partnership (DDP) is in the process of launching one of the region’s first Green Business Certifications! Through a Partnership with the City of Denver’s Department of Environmental Health, DDP Green Business Certification allows office and retail businesses to showcase their environmentally sustainable practices, while encouraging others to do the same. For additional information, check out "Greener Business."

Watts to Water
