Maintaining the Mall

The centerpiece of Downtown Denver is the 16th Street Mall, the 16-block long pedestrian and transit mall that serves as the retail core of Downtown Denver. In October 2007, the 16th Street Mall celebrated 25 years of success.

The 16th Street Mall is also the address for residential units, office buildings, hotels and two regional transportation stations. Seating areas along the Mall's tree-lined median and adjacent to cafes and restaurants attract pedestrian activity year-round. More than 60,000 riders board the 16th Street Mall's FREE shuttles on weekdays, with increasing numbers on weekends and weekday evenings.

**In 2007, the 16th Street Mall ranked #2 in metro area tourist attractions.

Using the Mall - Rules and Tips
The 16th Street Mall is a pedestrian and transit street; for the safety and enjoyment of all users of the Mall bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, scooters and other wheeled vehicles are not allowed, except at certain times, or by permit. The Mall is open to bicycles, skateboards, and rollerblades on Sundays. Pedicabs and horse carriages operate on the Mall after 6:00 pm on weekdays, and all day weekends and holidays.

The FREE MALL RIDE is the easiest way to get up and down the Mall, and around Downtown. The shuttle runs approximately every 2 minutes starting as early as 5:00 am on weekdays, with the last complete trip at 1:35 am. For more shuttle information, visit www.rtd-denver.com. These special buses stop at every corner between Broadway and Wynkoop Street in Lower Downtown. Simply board at any of the doors of the bus, and ride to your destination. The Denver Performing Arts Complex and Colorado Convention Center are two blocks from the 16th Street Mall, Coors Field is four blocks from the Mall, and the shuttle runs right through Lower Downtown between Blake and Wynkoop Street. The Pepsi Center arena and City Lights Pavilion are about four blocks from the Mall, across Speer Boulevard.

The Skyline Park Information Pavilion also features a small cafe serving various goodies, including waffles by the Waffle Brothers. If you're looking for information about events and destinations outside of Downtown, visit the Denver Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau Visitor Information Center on the corner of 16th and California.

    Maintaining the Mall
    power washing the Mall
The 16th Street Mall receives daily cleaning, maintenance and support by the Downtown Denver Business Improvement District (BID), a management organization funded by Downtown property owners. The BID's purple-uniformed crew removes trash, sweeps the sidewalk and transitway, removes graffiti, installs banners and holiday decorations and keeps the Mall clean, safe and attractive seven days a week.
