Facts About Panhandling

SAFETY IN DOWNTOWN DENVER

A central area of focus for the BID is to ensure a safe Downtown environment for everyone. Downtown Denver's low crime rate ranks it among the safest neighborhoods in the City & County of Denver, due in large part to the efforts of the Downtown Motorcycle Unit-a special division of the Denver Police Department's District 6-as well as the Mounted Horse Patrol, foot patrol officers, and bike patrol officers.

 POLICE SUPPORT
The BID provides funds to the Denver Police Department to enhance Downtown safety district-wide. These funds are used in various ways by the Downtown Motorcycle Unit, including periodic purchase of pagers, motorcycles and police cars to be used specifically by the unit. The BID also provides resources to the Mounted Patrol Unit and Neighborhood Patrol Officers (foot patrol), both frequent presences on the 16th Street Mall. While focused primarily on the 16th Street Mall, the Downtown Motorcycle Unit covers the entire 120-block BID area and beyond.

 WORKING FOR PUBLIC SAFETY
The BID also plays a vital role in setting policies and maintaining communications with government agencies on Downtown clean & safe issues. BID board members and staff are in frequent contact with City & County of Denver agencies, Denver Police Department, property owners and other constituents to enhance the level of safety in Downtown Denver.
