No Holds Bard presents FREE performances of Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing this summer at Skyline Park. No Holds Bard, a Denver-based troupe in its third season, dedicates itself to performing Shakespeare's work "as he intended it," by emulating the original performance conditions of Shakespeare's actors.
Makin g things even more challenging, Shakespeare's actors did not rehearse. Since they presented a different play each day, the actors most likely met the morning of a show, worked out the fights, music, and dance, and then performed that afternoon. And, in an era long before copy machines and copyright law, each actor received only his own lines and cues, not the whole play.
Similarly, No Holds Bard actors receive cue-scripts culled from the original First Folio texts, and create their performances based on the acting clues within them. Without conventional rehearsal, actors are often in the same position as the characters they are playing: genuinely unsure what is going to happen next.
Performances start at 6 p.m.
