Rickenbaugh Community Service Award
Mickey Zeppelin

When Mickey Zeppelin talks about Kent Rickenbaugh, he often describes Rickenbaugh’s desire to keep his business in Downtown Denver, in spite of the exodus of automobile dealers to the suburbs, sighting Rickenbaugh’s philosophy that it is “good business to not abandon a downtown.” Not only has Zeppelin embraced this same philosophy, he also consistently demonstrates his own commitment to and passion for Downtown. Well known for helping bring about significant cultural changes in Downtown’s developing neighborhoods, Zeppelin is considered one of a select group of individuals with a prophetic way of seeing opportunity and potential in the most unusual places. Mickey Zeppelin’s accomplishments and civic involvement are proof that the vision of one can positively impact a community of many.

As a Denver native, Zeppelin is a pioneer as a developer, property owner and manager, and investor in the Historic Lower Downtown District, Golden Triangle and River North neighborhoods. He was also the owner and co-founder of the popular City Spirit Café in LoDo, and recently founded and owns the Acoma Center, a multi-media performance and community center located in the Golden Triangle. He is well known for unlocking the potential of our underutilized urban areas by being one of the first to develop residential projects such as the Volker Lofts, Cadillac Lofts, and Taxi, which have been catalytic in raising the bar for their respective neighborhoods.

As a volunteer, Zeppelin has contributed to the successful evolution of the Denver community for more than twenty years, serving on steering committees for the 1986 Downtown Area Plan, the Central Platte Valley, Lower Downtown and the Stapleton Tomorrow planning process. He was co-founder of the Lower Downtown District, Inc., and served on the Boards of the 16th Street Mall Management and Business Improvement Districts. He also served as the president of the Golden Triangle Neighborhood Association.

Mickey Zeppelin understands that great cities require quality urban design and engaging public spaces that integrate the arts, culture, business and residential development. He remains a passionate voice for the enrichment of Denver’s center city neighborhoods.
