Downtown Denver is near the crossroads of three major interstate highways: I-25 (north-south), I-70 (east-west) and I-76 (northeast). The Denver Metro Convention and Visitor's Bureau offers a mileage chart to help visitors determine how long to plan their travel time to Denver.
Several stretches of highway running into Downtown offer HOV/Express Toll lanes for commuting convenience. These lanes are free for High Occupancy Vehicles (HOV) with two or more occupants, or cost between $.50 and $3.25 depending on time of day for single occupancy vehicles. Single occupancy vehicles wishing to use the Express Toll lanes, must first obtain a transponder by calling 303.537.3470 or visiting www.expresstoll.com. All tolls are collected by electronic toll collection - there are no tollbooths.
The HOV/Express Toll lanes leading to Downtown operate on I-25 between US-36 and Downtown and US-36 approximately between Federal Blvd and I-25. These reversible lanes that are open inbound to Downtown Denver 5am to 10am Monday through Friday. They open outbound from Downtown Denver from about 12pm to late evening Monday through Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.
There are additional HOV-only lanes on Santa Fe Drive, south of Denver, between Main Street in Downtown Littleton and I-25.
