Oversize and Alternative VehicleParking

Answers to frequently asked question about parking for buses, RVs, bikes, motorcycles, motor scooters and other non-traditional parking in Downtown Denver.

Buses/RVs/Oversize Vehicles
If you are planning a field trip or group trip to Downtown Denver, it is best to plan ahead for parking both for convenience and to manage costs. There are two options for parking, either on-street or in a private lot.
On-Street: To arrange for on-street parking the group needs a public right-of-way permit. All uses of the public right-of-way are handled by the Right-of-Way Office.  School Districts are able to obtain permits for the school busses when they come into downtown. RV and other large vehicle drivers can also obtain a ROW permit if they are willing to pay, and may also be subject to additional requirements or restrictions.  The office is identified as Public Works Permit Operations.  The telephone number is 303-446-3759.

Off-Street: Parking off-street requires negotiating for a parking space and rate with a private surface lot operator. Visitors should identify their destination Downtown and locate surface lots nearby using our interactive parking guide. Identify the operator of those lots, and contact them directly. Central-Allright operates many of the Downtown lots and has expressed a willingness to work with persons bringing such vehicles Downtown. They can be reached at 303-893-9402.

Motorcycles
Motorcycles and registered motor scooters (over 50 cc) must follow city parking rules and regulations. They may park at a meter in Downtown, or in any of the public lots. When parking at a meter there must be two feet separating each motorcycle. This allows up to four motorcycles to share one meter space, although if the meter expires, all four vehicles will be ticketed. Several lots have designated locations for motorcycle parking in addition to vehicular spaces that allow motorcycles. These rules may change with demand, so it's best to call first. A list of parking operator phone numbers can be accessed by clicking here.

Motor Scooters (unregistered (under 50 cc), i.e. Vespa)
Motor scooters and any other sort of motorized vehicle that is too small to be registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles are not allowed to be ridden on sidewalks in Downtown unless used by a physically disabled person requiring such assistance. They may be walked on sidewalks and locked up like a bicycle to a bike rack, but may not obstruct the sidewalk or be placed in the flow of traffic. They also may not be locked to lights, benches or trees. See also the section on bicycles below.

Bicycles
For bicyclists in Downtown whose destination buildings do not allow bicycles indoors, there are several options. Market Street Station at 16th & Market, and Union Station at 16th & Wynkoop both have bicycle lockers in front of the station where bikes can be secured for all or part of the day in a safe and enclosed environment. Several parking garages also allow covered bicycle parking near the attendant. There are also bike parking amenities on most of the named cross streets in Downtown where a bike can be secured with a lock. Bikes may not be secured to street furniture such as lights or benches, or to trees. Because the 16th Street Mall is a transit mall, bikes are not allowed to be ridden on the mall, except on Sundays, and only then within the transit lane used by the Mall Shuttles.
