Urban Design Plan Overview

Planners, designers, architects and experts in a number of fields have spent the past months studying, surveying and assessing the Mall's existing conditions. They have analyzed its successes and shortcomings through research and extensive survey of residents and business-owners. After collecting and analyzing their findings, the consultant team (led by ZGF Architects of Portland, Oregon) created three possible options for improvement, which expanded to five options.  After careful consideration, the steering committee selected a preferred option along with a preferred furnishings palette.

The Urban Design Plandrives to preserve the original integrity of 16th Street

, maintained by consultant Laurie Olin, one of the original designers of the mall. The changes expand upon the Mall's successes and update it as recommended by the 2009 in-depth Technical Assessment. This includes enhancing efficiency and accessibility, allowing the Mall to continue to thrive long into the future.
