Bidding Farewell to Denver B-cycle
“Oh, are you talking about those red bikes?” As our community gears up to say “goodbye” to Denver B-cycle, the Downtown Denver Partnership would like to thank Denver B-cycle. For nearly ten years Denver B-cycle has been a cultural institution, a familiar face of downtown, and a handy and reliable mobility option for thousands of Denverites.
The Downtown Denver Partnership is a strong advocate for the increase of mobility options in Denver and the loss of this service is unfortunate as more and more people rely on bicycling and bike share as a means of getting around town.
This service has been particularly important to the downtown community; since 2015 at least 5% of companies downtown have included a B-cycle membership as an employee benefit, a tactic that has certainly increased downtown’s ability to achieve goals around reducing single-occupant-vehicle trips and increasing the share of commuters choosing to bike from 6.5% in 2015 to 9% in 2019.
The Partnership sincerely appreciates the hard work of Denver Bike Share Board and staff who have helped the system to grow and function as a valuable transportation option all these years. We will miss “those red bikes” downtown and look forward to the next era in bike sharing in Denver.
