Civic Center Station Re-Opens as Multi-Modal Transit Hub

The Downtown Denver Partnership joins the Regional Transportation District (RTD) and the City and County Denver to celebrate the re-opening of Civic Center Station following a comprehensive revitalization of the station into a multi-modal transit center that provides better connections and enhances the quality of service for passengers. The station will re-opened to the public on December 17, 2017.

The 2007 Downtown Area Plan, the long-term vision to create a healthy and vital Downtown Denver, identifies a goal to establish Civic Center Station as a premier local transit hub, similar to the success in establishing Denver Union Station as a regional transit hub. The Partnership was pleased to represent the Downtown business community during the planning process for the Civic Center Transit District Plan, advocating for not just rehabilitating this important transit anchor in Downtown Denver, but revitalizing this entire area, enhancing multi-modal mobility and generating economic development opportunities.

This project represents one of the most significant public investment projects in upper Downtown in several years, and will have a catalytic effect it will have on the surrounding blocks. The high-quality design and improved layout will also improve connections to the 16th Street Mall and Civic Center Park, improving both the image and perceptions of safety in this area.

As we mark the successful completion of construction on the station, our commitment continues moving forward. In 2018, the Downtown Denver Leadership Program will focus on leveraging the opportunities Civic Center Station brings to our community, creating a recommendation for a semi-permanent vision for the 20,000 square feet of developable open space it has created.

Thank you to RTD, specifically Dave Genova and the Board of Directors, the City and County of Denver, the Federal Transit Administration, Mortenson Construction and all of the partners who are coming together on this project that will benefit generations of Downtown commuters for years to come.
