The Downtown Denver Partnership furthered the private sector’s commitment to a safe, welcoming and inclusive Downtown Denver by announcing today the hiring of Steve Shireman as Senior Manager of Downtown Security.

The Downtown Denver Partnership’s Senior Manager of Downtown Security leads the strategic implementation of the more than 240 action items outlined in the Downtown Security Action Plan (Plan) for Downtown Denver that was launched in 2016. The implementation of the Downtown Security Action Plan has realized year-over-year decreases in reported crimes within the BID and overall improved perception of safety throughout downtown.

Shireman will lead and oversee all activities related to ensuring that Downtown Denver remains a safe and welcoming place for all who live, work and visit. Using the Plan as a guide, Shireman will be responsible for overseeing security practices under the Downtown Denver Business Improvement District (BID) and Partnership, including management of the downtown security team, collecting data to measure success of the Plan and consumer confidence in the downtown area, and strategic planning around community activation and awareness. Shireman will interface with the community, property and business owners, City of Denver, Regional Transportation District (RTD) and other key stakeholders to ensure that various safety and security tactics are carefully managed and executed.

“Fostering an inviting and inclusive experience in Downtown Denver is paramount to achieving our mission of creating an economically healthy and vibrant center city for all,” said Tami Door, President and CEO of the Downtown Denver Partnership, “Steve’s experience and expertise will enhance current efforts and help to propel initiatives tied to the Security Action Plan even further.”

Shireman has played a crucial role in building the security team with the Downtown Denver Business Improvement District and driving the Security Action Plan forward during his three years as Account Manager with Allied Security. Prior to this role, Shireman was a Program Security Manager and Industrial Security Representative at Ball Aerospace. Shireman also served as Information System Security Manager and Deputy Facility Security Manager with JT3, a contract security company for the military. Shireman has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Phoenix.

“I am looking forward to taking the Downtown Security Action Plan into its next phase,” said Shireman, “Expanding influence of the Plan to create broader impact and perpetuate a culture of safety in our city is key to ensuring downtown is a safe, welcoming place to live, work and play.”
