News from the Top: Giving Thanks

November 21, 2019

Tami Door, President and CEO of the Downtown Denver Partnership serves as Chair of the International Downtown Association’s (IDA) Board of Directors. Tami offers her expertise in city building to members of IDA in her monthly News from the Top column.

With Thanksgiving just days away, many of us already have our sights set beyond Thursday. Skating rinks, holiday lights, parades, and special events have been dancing in our heads for months. Though for many of our cities and districts the holiday season is significant – in terms of economics, activation and workload – I hope that, in honor of Thanksgiving and throughout this holiday season – you are able to pause, soak in the impact of your work, and give thanks for all that city building brings to each of our lives and the lives of others.

As city builders, we do so much for so many, especially during the holiday season. We create memorable traditions for families; help support the livelihood of business owners; surprise and delight visitors; and enliven our public realms to the benefit of all. So, in the midst of event set-up, supporting your retailers and lighting up your districts — be sure to take in the smiling faces, the buzzing storefronts, and the spirit the season that instills joy within those who experience your downtown. This is a time of year to be especially thankful for our unique ability to shape memories and experiences through our places.

I, for one, am particularly thankful for you – the IDA community.  Our collective spirit of collaboration and passion for the unique and ever-evolving work we do is unmatched.
