Strava Announces Expansion to Downtown Denver
On Tuesday, January 23, fitness social network app Strava announced its expansion to Downtown Denver. Strava—who adds 1 million users from around the world every 40 days— plans to grow its employee base in Downtown Denver to nearly 100 workers over the course of three years.
“Companies like Strava are seeking out our center city for our strong talent pool and thriving tech scene,” said Randy Thelen, Downtown Denver Partnership’s Vice President of Economic Development, “Strava’s Downtown Denver outpost is one more clear sign that our center city is a national leader in technology and innovation.”
After considering several other U.S. cities for expansion, Strava selected Downtown Denver, citing the center city’s highly-skilled technical talent pool and Downtown’s long-term vision and commitment to building a multi-modal Downtown.
Strava’s move to Colorado—its second-most active user base for running and cycling in the nation— can also be credited to the City and State’s active, outdoor-focused culture.
“We love Denver for the depth of the talent, the outdoor lifestyle commitment, and [Denver’s] commitment to long-term urban planning and bike lanes throughout the city,” said Strava’s CEO James Quarles.
One of Strava’s pivotal interactions with Denver’s robust culture of entrepreneurship and innovation was at Denver Startup Week in 2017, where Strava representatives were impressed with the vibrant energy of the center city’s tech scene.
In 2017, Denver collected accolades such as Best Place for Business and Careers (Forbes), 2nd Best City for Software Engineers (Hired), and 2nd Best Place to Live (U.S. News and World Report), contributing to an influx of expansions and relocations of companies like Vertafore, Marketo, and Xero, in addition to Strava.
The Downtown Denver Partnership is proud to have had the opportunity to meet with Strava during the company’s decision making process and is thrilled to join Governor Hickenlooper, the Colorado Office of Economic Development, Metro Denver Economic Development Council and the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Office in celebrating Strava’s expansion to Downtown Denver.
