Denver Downtown Development Authority Approves Investments in Major Office Tenancy, Ground Floor Activation

The Downtown Denver Partnership is proud to celebrate two new catalytic investments approved today by the Denver Downtown Development Authority (DDDA), both aimed at strengthening downtown's office market and bringing new energy to the street level.

Backing a Major Employer's Move to Upper Downtown

Alterra Mountain Company, owner of 19 North American ski destinations and the Ikon Pass, is actively exploring long-term office locations for its headquarters, including several Upper Downtown buildings. Today, the DDDA authorized up to $7,000,000 in loan funding to support Alterra's relocation to Upper Downtown, should the company choose a site within DDDA boundaries.

Fueling Ground Floor Activation on the 16th Street Corridor

Adding to continued momentum on 16th Street, the DDDA board approved a $240,000 low-interest loan to Paired Hospitality, the team behind Michelin-starred Beckon and Major Tom, to build out a new full-service restaurant and bar at 1530 16th St (The Sugar Building). The 2,850-square-foot space will include an open kitchen with counter seating, a dining room, and a bar, and is expected to operate seven days a week.

Expanding the DDDA's Reach at 101 W Colfax Avenue

The DDDA also approved a petition to bring the city-owned property at 101 W Colfax Avenue into the DDDA boundaries, a proactive step to raise the property's visibility and make it more attractive to prospective office tenants. The supports this move as part of a broader, sustained push to reactivate underutilized office space in Upper Downtown.

A Growing Track Record of Investment

With today's approvals, the DDDA has now approved more than $298,657,144 in support for new retail and entertainment destinations, parks and public spaces, housing at a range of price points, job creation, and future redevelopment opportunities downtown.

The Partnership has been proud to support the DDDA's work since voters first approved the authority in 2008 and expanded it in 2024, and we look forward to seeing these two projects move to Denver City Council for final review and approval.
